It’s my favorite time of the year and our trees are changing their green coats to a colorful array. Sadly, some of our trees have lost most of their leaves. I am going to enjoy this tapestry of blended colors, be thankful and not think about having to rake them. I’ll leave that to another day.

Shortly after rising this morning, I glanced at the outdoor temperature and shook my head. It read 41.7 degrees. Are we at the end of spring heading to summer or in late fall heading towards winter? This kind of weather is so hard on all of us – farmers and those of us who plant in our gardens. Sure, the cold season crops (lettuce, spinach, peas, etc.) thrive with the cooler weather but our warm season crops (tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, etc.), want warmth and more sun. I know I thrive with having the sun out more.
So, in honor of warmer weather coming, I’ve changed our featured flavors to seasonal favorites – NY Style with Strawberries, Mark’s Mudtracks, Banana Split and Strawberry Shortbread – which I was told “it out of this world” from a client earlier this week. With summer, right around the corner (hopefully), don’t forget to call and order one (or more) of our cheesecakes for your graduation open house, summer BBQ party, family reunion, birthday party or anniversary celebration. Until next time, happily baking, Diane Since my last post, we have been quite busy on our farm. We're at the end of our lambing season - some single births but more sets of twins and even a set of triplets. Our barn is "hopping" with spring lambs. I can never get enough of their cuteness and boundless energy. Taking a cue from their energy, I am hoping that spring is around the corner so I can get outside and get my hands dirty digging in the soil, planting new flowers and building other projects. In preparation for the upcoming Good Friday/Easter holidays and Passover observances, below are several flavors that remind me of spring:
So I was up early this morning and caught the news coverage on Punxsutawney Phil seeing his shadow
- predicting 6 more weeks of winter. Even with his declaration, spring will come in March like usual. Regardless, February is still filled with several opportunities to celebrate with family and friends with one of our artesian cheesecakes – Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 5), President Lincoln’s Birthday (Feb. 12), Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14), President’s Day (Feb. 20) and President George Washington’s Birthday (Feb. 22). Featured Flavors are: Chocolate Covered Cherry Chocolate Covered Strawberry Chocolate Covered Strawberry topped with Half Dozen Homemade Chocolate Roses Chocolate Covered Strawberry topped with a box of Homemade Chocolates Maybe you or a loved one are celebrating a birthday or anniversary this month also. When all through our house, we're all stirring this cold morning getting things done. Folding boxes and getting ready to top a few cakes. Baked all day yesterday (almost 12 hours) and baking some more tomorrow. Having fun!!
I'm back in from shoveling the back deck and part of the driveway again. Truly love being outside, enjoying the peacefulness of the moment and hearing the snow fall. As a small business owner, I wear many hats and this morning I was out doing maintenance. Love my job!! Here's a few pictures of my world today.
It’s my favorite time of the year. I love seeing the beautiful golds, reds, yellows on our trees and then see them floating and falling to the ground. I enjoyed kicking through the fallen leaves as I walked down our driveway to the mailbox this morning. Trying not to think about my having to rake them soon. I love seeing the blue jays back at our feeders with their blue, white and black feathers contrasting with our fall colors. Amidst the season, we are truly thankful for many things.
